Aug 24

 Hello.

Longtime no update. Hope everyone is having a good summer. I’ve been busy playing a bunch of shows as well as writing new songs with The Hold Steady. We’ve got a bunch of cool Hold Steady shows coming up in the States as well as Sweden and Norway. As always, you can find the dates here.

I recently performed an unreleased CF song called “Meserole” in McGorlick Park and the folks at Bowery were kind enough to make a cool video for it.

I’m also excited to announce that I’ll be heading to Europe in November to play some of my solo material with my good friends Patterson Hood and Will Johnson. These should be some really cool shows, and I’m super excited to be sharing the stage with two of my favorite songwriters. They both have really great solo records coming out this Fall which I hope you will check out. The European dates are here.

There is much more in the works and I will update as information becomes available.

Meanwhile, I’ve been digging a bunch of cool new and old music: Father John Misty, Total Control, Mink DeVille, Japandroids, Jim Ford, Violent Bullshit, El-P, Ramones, Spider Bags, etc.

 See you soon. Stay Positive.

Upcoming Hold Steady and Solo Shows!

Hey Everyone,

I hope all is good. I’ve been enjoying my time at home writing music and seeing a bunch of shows. Thank you Nick Lowe, Wu Lyf, Titus Andronicus, Archers of Loaf, and Bruce Springsteen for some great times.

Besides going to shows, I’m also going to play quite a few coming up. The Hold Steady has a very fun tour in June.  Check out all those dates HERE.

I’ve also got a few solo shows. The first two are in Chicago on June 2. During the day I’ll be at the Do Division Festival. That evening I’ll be at the Empty Bottle. I’m excited to be spending the weekend in Chicago.

Also, I will be playing a show with The Baseball Project on July 5 at City Winery in NYC. I had a great time performing and hanging out with these guys last year. This should be a great show.  Click HERE for more info and tickets.

For all the solo sets, it will just be me and a guitar. I’ll tell you some stories and sing you some songs. This is the first time I’ve done sets like this, and I’m looking forward to it.

Hope to see you soon.

Hey-
Today Esquire Magazine released “Respective Coasts”, a song I wrote for their songwriting challenge. Here is the story:
For the May 2012 issue of Esquire magazine, five diverse musicians—Chris Daughtry, Anthony Hamilton, Rhett Miller, Craig Finn, and Sam Roberts—convened in the Coachella Valley for a two day fashion shoot with world-famous photographer Danny Clinch. Additionally, each artist accepted The Esquire Songwriting Challenge: write, perform, and record an original song inspired by the title of the fashion portfolio, “Pacific Standard Time.” With minimal prep time (the artists had less than a week to conceive and write their songs) and bare bones studio resources (no bands, no back up singers, and a limited time to record), the five artists put their own individual spins on the Challenge with their original songs.
I had a lot of fun doing this and met some really great people. All the artists were really creative and inspiring people. “Respective Coasts” was written pretty much on the spot and I got all the other guys to sing some backups on it. The song tells the story of Kevin and Heather, a broken up couple that can’t seem to quite let go of each other.
Respective Coasts” is available for download here: itunes.com/esquiremusic
The proceeds will benefit Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America. There will also be a really cool feature in the May issue of Esquire detailing the trip.
There is a really cool video here:

I felt really lucky to be a part of this. I hope you enjoy. The photo above is by Danny Clinch/Esquire .

Chicago solo show

Hey Everyone-

I’m finally back in Brooklyn after a bunch of travels. We had an amazing time on the Clear Heart Full Eyes tour in Europe and some great Hold Steady shows in Texas.

We are currently working on songs for the next Hold Steady record and are playing shows throughout the summer. Very excited to be back.

Meanwhile, I am going to do a handful of solo shows coming up. These will be for the most part just me on stage, no band. I’ll be playing songs, telling stories, etc. The idea is to do something loose and fun. The first one of these is in Chicago at the Empty Bottle on June 2. Would love to see you there.

Info here: http://tinyurl.com/6sxkr27

Also, we set up an online merch store for some Clear Heart merch. Check it out here:

US Tour done. UK/Euro tour beginning now.

Hey Everyone-

We had a great time on the US tour. Thanks to everyone who came out to the shows and hung out with us.  Also, thanks to Mount Moriah and Marcellus Hall for being very cool openers along the way.

Tiny Desk Concert and Live at the Current

Hey Everyone,

Two really cool performances just became available online.

A few weeks ago Ricky and I drove to DC to do a Tiny Desk Concert at NPR. It was a lot of fun. Thanks to Bob Boilen and everyone there for having us. We took the opportunity to play an unreleased track called “Jeremiah’s Blues”, among a few others. It’s available for viewing here:

http://www.npr.org/event/music/146574150/craig-finn-tiny-desk-concert?ps=mh_frhdl3

Also, after the Minneapolis show we paid a visit to my old friends at the Current. As always, it was a wonderful time and they did an amazing job with all of it. Minneapolis has a real gem in that station. You can check out that session right HERE.

This one features another unreleased song, “Sarah, I’m Surrounded”.

Enjoy the music.

Greetings from Ohio. Ten days in.

Hey Everyone,

About ten days into tour and it’s been a lot of fun. Thanks to everyone who had come out to the shows. It’s been a lot of driving so far, and some bad weather, but we are holding up pretty well.

Please check the tour dates, there’s a pretty good chance that we are heading your way.

Lately, I’ve taken to calling the band “Some Guns”. As in, “Craig Finn and Some Guns”. We even have a theme song. It’s called “Some Guns”.

If you want to follow along at home, Some Guns bassist Alex is keeping a tour diary here:

Looking forward to what comes next! Tons more shows.

Tour kickoff. Austin show.

Hey Everyone,

I’m packing my bags to head out on the Clear Heart Full Eyes tour. Really looking forward to it. Just wanted to mention that we have added an Austin show this Tuesday, Jan 31 at the Hole in the Wall.

Myself with band will play a set at 8pm, followed by Moonlight Towers, Excited States, and the Happen-ins. It should be an epic night of good tunes. If you live in Austin, please come down and help us kick off the tour.

Doors are at 6pm. Cover is $5.

I just got back from the UK and Europe where Ricky and I met a bunch of great people and had a ton of fun. Thanks to all who came out and I really look forward to being back there with the Felice Brothers in March. We also added headlining shows in London and Brighton. Check the tour page for details.

Thank you for all of the kind words put forth about the record. Very excited to play the songs live for you. Hope to see you on the road.
